Woman admits she ‘threw away’ baby in garbage bag

A 28-year-old woman was taken into police custody Saturday after officers found her newborn child dead in a black garbage bag in front of her Staten Island home, cop sources said.

Nausheen Rahman walked into the emergency room of Staten Island University Hospital North on Friday at around 11:30 a.m., and complained that she was bleeding as a result of giving birth at home, sources said.

The woman admitted to hospital staff that she gave birth five days prior and “threw away” the baby, sources said. She later changed her initial story and said she gave birth Thursday.

Police responded to a call from staff to the hospital and opened an investigation into the woman.

Cops on Saturday discovered the baby dead inside the trash bag outside of the woman’s Richmond Hill Road home near Vassar Street in Heartland Village at around 11:30 a.m., police said.

Rahman was taken to the 121st Precinct and charged with concealment of a human corpse.

The Medical Examiner’s office will determine the baby’s age and cause of death.
