ClaimStat maps lawsuits brought against the city

West Bronx residents have responded to police patrols in their high-crime neighborhoods by suing — slapping the NYPD with 13 lawsuits for every 100 crimes reported last year, an analysis has found.

By comparison, Manhattan’s Midtown North Precinct had more crime complaints in 2013, but residents there submitted only two claims against cops per 100 crimes.

The findings were part of a new data-driven initiative, ClaimStat, unveiled Tuesday by Comptroller Scott Stringer in a bid to understand where and why suits against city agencies are occurring.

The analysis found that more than 9,500 claims were filed against the NYPD last year. The cost of settlements and judgments against the department that year topped $137 million, the most of any city agency.

The city has earmarked $674 million to settle suits against all agencies this year.

“I want to break this trend using data, changing policies and reducing claims against the city,” Stringer told The Post.
