Reward raised to $2,000 in case of neglected Shih Tzu

The reward to catch a heartless dog owner who left a severely neglected Shih Tzu to die in Long Island last week has been raised to $2,000 by the Suffolk County SPCA.

The non-profit organization will now be joining the New York State Human Association in the hunt for the animal abuser who left the battered dog with nearly 4 pounds of uncombed hair, according to a press release on Thursday.

The NYSHA have already offered $1,000 to anyone who could track down the despicable culprit responsible for dumping little Ziggy, who is believed to be between 5 and 6 years old.

The pup was brought to the Town of Babylon Animal Shelter on July 17 after a person found him inside of an abandoned house in Lindenhurst.

The raggedy dog’s fur was so matted and his nails were so overgrown that he couldn’t even walk properly, workers at the shelter said.

Babylon shelter director Chris Elton said when Ziggy came in for treatment that the dog had one of the worst cases of matting he had ever seen.

The Shih Tzu has been transferred to the New York Veterinary Specialty & Emergency in Farmingdale to begin its extensive physical therapy to help him walk again.
