The 9 best Venice Film Festival looks

It’s a scientific fact: As the temperature drops, fashion heats up.

After ample fails at the back-to-back MTV Video Music Awards and Emmys, the international style set descended upon Venice for its fabled film festival to upstage practically everyone who’s not there.

From a slew of magical Alberta Ferretti gowns to a marvelous Miu Miu coup, here are the best of the best.

To the “Birdman” premiere, held during the opening ceremony of the 2014 Venice Film Festival, the Italian model made for a Sardinian empress in a strapless Dolce & Gabbana gown suited perfectly to her graceful proportions.

The Italian actress chose Alberta Ferretti for her walk down the “Birdman” red carpet. With its classic shape offset by a darkly whimsical textured print, the dress makes Mastronardi look like a glammed-up creature from “Into the Woods.”

For her “Birdman” turn, the French actress flaunted her own Alberta Ferretti dress — a dusty pink floral-embroidered number — and the best seen in Venice yet.

At the “Miu Miu Women’s Tales #7 – #8” screening, the actress wore an embellished pastel shift by the brand, accessorized with a sparkly green clutch. Easy hair and barely there makeup add to the look’s overall freshness.

The formula is straightforward: Match alabaster skin with fiercely cropped red locks and an emerald Valentino couture gown to completely shut it down.

The spangled Miu Miu design Jones sported to the brand’s premiere proves long sleeves and high necklines can, too, be sexy.

Also at the Miu Miu event, Mara went the neutral way in a shimmery nude dress by the brand, paired with pretty Mary Janes. You know a look is winning when it’s paradoxically simple and statement-making.

Three’s a charm for Alberta Ferretti, who outfitted the stunning Ethiopian model in a dramatic organza gown for the “Birdman” premiere.

The Spanish actress in Alberta Ferretti equals a home run for the Italian designer — bonus points for the Bulgari haute couture jewels.
