Alleged killer named his gun ‘Loretta’

A Brooklyn street tough called the gun he used to kill another man “Loretta” and kept it in a baby’s crib in his girlfriend’s apartment, prosecutors said Monday.

Daneel Edwards, 28, faces a murder rap for shooting steam-fitter and father-of-four Martin Williams, 42, in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens on April 9, 2013.

“He took his 9-mm gun that he so affectionately called, ‘Loretta,’ and fired over and over and over again,” said Brooklyn assistant district attorney Melissa Carvajal. “He gunned [Williams] down, even as he tried to flee.”

The beef between Edwards and Williams started at a bodega when Edwards told gal pal Anita Adkins that Williams “looked like a rat,” Adkins wrote in a statement.

Adkins then called her friend Alice Alacron to tell her to fetch the gun from their apartment downstairs for Edwards.

“She told me to tell Kayshawn [Adkins] to go in the bag in the crib [and] bring Loretta downstairs to meet her in the lobby,” Alacron wrote in her statement.

After blasting six shots through the side of the van Williams was sitting in, Edwards ran back up into his girlfriend’s apartment and ordered her to cut the long braids he wore in a topknot.

“He hides his gun in a bag in the baby’s crib again and he has [a friend] cut his hair,” Carvajal said.

An NYPD detective who searched the apartment testified Tuesday that he found clippers on a bed, a bag full of hair on the floor, and the handgun in the crib.

“This was not an intentional murder. He was staying there to defend himself,” defense attorney Jason Russo said in court.
