‘Masters of Sex,’ ‘Ray Donovan’ renewed by Showtime

Two Showtime dramas — “Masters of Sex” and “Ray Donovan” — have each earned another season.

The network has renewed both series for 12-episode third seasons, to begin production early next year.

“Ray Donovan” is averaging 5 million weekly viewers, while “Masters of Sex” is drawing nearly 4 million viewers per week. Both shows’ latest episodes drew more viewers than their season premieres did last month.

“Masters of Sex” — which follows the work and lives of the sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson in the 1950s — scored five Emmy nominations this year, including a win last weekend for guest star Allison Janney. Star Lizzy Caplan is up for a Best Actress prize at Monday’s Primetime Emmys ceremony.

Jon Voight also nabbed his first series nomination for his role as crooked patriarch Mickey Donovan in “Ray Donovan.”
