Animation app Nito has big plans for seed money

It’s like making “Avatar” on a budget.

New York startup Nito Inc., whose do-it-yourself animation app has given the Facebook crowd another way to express itself online, is hoping Madison Avenue will also see it as a game-changer.

Nito just received $600,000 in seed money from anonymous members of investing group New York Angels, The Post has learned.

With the new cash, the year-old startup plans to beef up its sales force and push a pro version of its software that makes it quicker and cheaper for corporate clients and advertisers to create cartoon-driven content for social media platforms.

Nito launched a free mobile app in May that allows anyone to turn their mug into a cartoon character. Using the front-facing camera on an iPhone or iPad, the app maps your face as you talk.

You can pick from nine digital avatars, like a monkey or a pig, to represent you in 15-second videos that can be shared via e-mail or social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

Nito believes its biggest money-making potential, however, lies in its business-to-business software, which launched last week and has already attracted four customers, co-founder and President Hoyt Morgan told The Post.

The software, which Nito will license to companies for $10,000 a year, is similar to the app except that it lets business customers make unlimited animated videos of any length using their own cartoon characters.
