Imported defender Perrinelle cleared for Red Bulls just in time

With the Red Bulls’ fans clamoring for a Designated Player, they finally have a different DP: Damien Perrinelle.

The French defender — whose signing was first reported by The Post on July 23 — had gotten his International Transfer Certificate, and now after finally getting his P-1 visa squared away, is eligible to play.

“This lad can play right fullback or a centerback. He can play there. He’s technically very good, so that’s why we’re giving him [a chance],” Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh said last month. “He’s a good player on the ball. He’s talented with the ball at his feet and he’s technically very good.”

Perrinelle spent last season with Istres in Ligue 2.

He arrives at a perfect time. With starting centerback Jamison Olave suspended for grabbing an opponent’s genitals (is that a thing now?) and teen Matt Miazga suspended for a red-card tackle, Ibrahim Sekagya and the little-used Armando were the only natural centerbacks on the roster available for Sunday’s game at the Chicago Fire.
