Strawberry says Kevin Mitchell really is a cat killer

In Dwight Gooden’s autobiography, “Heat,” the former Mets ace wrote that 1986 teammate Kevin Mitchell decapitated a cat during an argument with Mitchell’s girlfriend.

Mitchell has disputed what Gooden wrote, but now a third member of the World Series champions has stepped to the plate to confirm the animal cruelty: Darryl Strawberry.

Strawberry was on HuffPost Live with his wife, Tracy, to discuss their new book “The Imperfect Marriage: Help For Those Who Think It’s Over.” Strawberry was asked about the cat incident, and was oddly cavalier in confirming Gooden’s account.

“That’s a pretty good story. I think that’s pretty accurate,” he said. “Kevin Mitchell did do that. Kevin Mitchell, he’s a different type of guy. Great guy, super teammate … I guess he figured that the girlfriend was acting a little crazy, so I’ll kill her cat.”
