Why is Mark Sanchez comparing Nick Foles to a ‘polar bear’?

And what animal would Mark Sanchez be?

The former Jets quarterback used an odd comparison to tout Nick Foles’ ability in an interview with WIP in Philadelphia.

“I think the way he works, and his personality, it’s very mellow, almost like a polar bear,” Sanchez said of the Eagles starting quarterback in comments picked up by NJ.com.

“They look kind of deceivingly, like, ‘Oh, he’s just relaxing,’ but when it’s time to play, when it’s time to go, and the polar bear, it’s his time to hunt and he has to go get a seal, that dude is not messing around. He’s got this killer instinct in him and it doesn’t show when he’s off the field.”

Sanchez was brought in by the Eagles to back up Foles after his tenure with the Jets ended by missing the entirety of 2013 with a shoulder injury. Sanchez has impressed the Eagles in training camp, but Foles is entrenched as the starter after throwing 27 touchdowns compared to two interceptions in leading the Eagles in the NFC East crown.

“It doesn’t show when you’re talking to him or you’re in Bible study with the guy,” Sanchez said. “You’d never know this was a professional quarterback. He doesn’t talk about it. He doesn’t brag about it. But when it’s time to play, the dude just suits up, and I mean he can flat out sling the ball … With the way he’s working and the system he has around him and the talent he has around him. I think he can be one of the best quarterbacks in the league.”
