The 2 train is NYC’s worst subway line

The 2 train is the worst subway line, due to spotty service and few seats during rush hour, according to a subway report card put out Wednesday by the Straphangers Campaign.

Riders taking the 2 have only a 23 percent chance of getting a seat during their commute, compared to a 44 percent shot on the 3 during rush hour.

The C train also did badly, with its 1950s-era subway cars breaking down more than any other subway line.

“It was a bitterly fought contest between the C and 2 for the bottom of the barrel,” said Gene Russianoff of the Straphangers Campaign.

The 7 train is the best for riders, with frequent trains, few mechanical breakdowns, and clean cars, according to the analysis.

7 trains come every two-and-a-half minutes during peak periods. Only the 6 line comes as frequently.

An MTA spokesman said they constantly analyze performance data to improve service, and are launching new teams of track, signal and rail workers to quickly respond to any incidents during rush hour.

The Straphangers Campaign says they put out the annual report card because the MTA isn’t always transparent about how subway lines are performing.

Last year, for instance, it stopped reporting monthly data on subway car breakdowns by line, which the MTA had started doing in 2009, according to the group.
