Lincoln Tunnel car crash leaves 1 dead

A speeding BMW driver caused a chain reaction crash in the Lincoln Tunnel that killed a minivan passenger on Tuesday morning, sources said.

The unidentified driver lost control in the center, Manhattan bound tube and rear-ended a Mercedes minivan around 8:30 a.m., the sources said.

The luxury car then careened into a jitney bus — bringing traffic to a complete standstill.

A 49-year-old man from Summit, N.J. who was riding shotgun in the Mercedes went into cardiac arrest at the scene and was rushed to Roosevelt Hospital where he later died, officials said.

Two more people, including the driver of the BMW, were taken to Bellevue Hospital with less serious injuries.

The PAPD is still investigating and will review surveillance footage to determine the cause of the crash.

The driver of the BMW has not yet been charged or summonsed, officials said.

The crash caused hours long delays for commuters, with the tube remaining closed for nearly four hours.
