D’oh! Charter blasted for ‘Simpsons’ tweet amid outages

Charter Communications customers blasted the cable company after it tweeted details of a “Simpsons” marathon rather than address an Internet outage across its service area.
Subscribers slammed the fourth-biggest cable provider on Facebook and Twitter on Sunday for failing to keep up with customer-service calls and ignoring social-media pleas for help.
Website Downdetector noted the outage on Saturday, showing a giant red heat map indicating issues across Charter’s service area. The site received 8,000 notices of lost connections on Saturday and problems affecting customers in Boston, LA, Chicago and Dallas.

One customer tweeted: “Is there a company worse than Charter at public relations and social media? I think not. #CharterOutage.”
“@CharterCom has been tweeting out contests nonstop, but has yet to mention nationwide #CharterOutage,” said a second irritated customer on Twitter.
“Thanks for the great communication #sarcasm,” wrote a third, even after service was restored.
Spokeswoman Kim Haas told the AP that Stamford, Conn.-based Charter was working on getting service back to normal and that the cause was unknown.
