Bags of money spill on highway after armored truck flips

Money went flying on a Rhode Island highway Saturday after an armored truck flipped over and sent its valuable load spilling onto the road, authorities said.

Cash stored in the clear plastic bags and white canvas duffle bags flew onto Route 10 in Cranston a little before 2 pm. after the truck toppled over.

Passersby swarmed the scene but it wasn’t immediately clear if anyone snagged any of the money bags.

“There were bags of it all over the place,” deputy fire chief Paul Valletta told the Providence Journal. “There were quite a few people here.”

Both people inside the armored truck suffered minor injuries in the accident, officials said.

The truck in Saturday’s Rhode Island crash was operated by GardaWorld Security Corp.

It’s the same security company that left a bag of money sitting on top of an armored car when it pulled away from the Revel casino in Atlantic City earlier this month.
