Bickering politicians cancel press conference in wake of Bridgegate

Bickering New York and New Jersey lawmakers canceled a press conference on historic Port Authority reform after Bridgegate at the last minute on Friday morning.

New Jersey assemblyman John Wisniewski, chair of the legislative committee investigating Bridgegate, wanted the Fort Lee press conference delayed because he wasn’t consulted on the reforms — and so that his committee could finish more interviews, statehouse sources said.

Brooklyn state senator Martin Golden and assemblyman Jim Brennan had tried to organize the conference with New Jersey Senator Bob Gordon and assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri, who cover Bergen and Passaic County.

Gordon and Vainieri put out a bland statement after the cancellation.

“Today’s news conference has been postponed as we continue complete work on bi-state bipartisan legislation that will finally bring clearly needed reform to the Port Authority,” they said jointly.
