ATM thieves caught on camera blowing red light

Not so fast!

Two crooks used a Cadillac Escalade to yank an ATM out of a bodega wall in Brooklyn on Tuesday — but were caught on camera blowing a red light as they dragged the machine away, police sources said.

The bumbling bandits were last seen speeding toward the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway in Williamsburg at 2 a.m. with their cash-stocked prize in tow.

“It’s like the world’s dumbest criminals,” said Carlos Morales, 30, a worker who viewed the footage captured at The Bridge Deli & Grocery Store on Wythe Avenue and South 8th Street.

“I started cracking up. It’s so unreal,” Morales said. “I thought I was watching a TV show!”

To pull off the sloppy heist, the thieves tied a chain around the money machine and then fastened it to the Escalade, the surveillance video revealed.

But they failed to snatch the ATM on the first try. The video shows the chain breaking with a big spark as the SUV speeds away from the curb.

Not to be defeated, they backed the truck up to the sidewalk a second time and reattached the chain for a second try. Sparks flew as the cash machine popped out of the wall — leaving behind a gaping hole.

“I heard a bang. It sounded like an accident. Then I looked and saw them dragging the [ATM] with a chain. I couldn’t believe it,” said a Shomrim guard who declined to give his name.

In a panic, the thieves sped several blocks to the BQE, where they ran a red light near the expressway entrance just minutes later, police sources said.

A camera set up for ticketing rule-breaking drivers snapped a photo of the clumsy getaway, according to the law-enforcement sources. The photo revealed the SUV’s license plate — which the police hope will help hunt down the bandits.

The ATM contained roughly $5,000, said Rosanna Gomez, 29, owner of The Bridge Deli.

“There was a big hole where the ATM machine was, anyone could have come inside the store,” she said. “It was two men. The man who put the chain around the ATM was wearing a hat. He was about 200 pounds.”

It’s unclear how far the crooks got the machine or if the car was stolen.
