Winged daredevils plunge over city into Hudson River

Five daredevils on Sunday made the most spectacular landing on the Hudson since Chesley Sullenberger.

The wing-suited Red Bull Aerial Team jumped out of a plane 7,500 feet above Governors Island at 8 a.m., then glided up the river, passing the Freedom Tower, and landed on a barge moored off Chambers Street.

“It was pretty amazing — one of the best [jumps] ever,” said team member Jeff Provenzano.

He said the jumpers had city permits, and realized that there was more at stake than staying dry if they veered off course.

“We have to land on the barge. [If] we don’t hit the barge, the city’s not going to have us come back,” said the 37-year-old Lower East Side stuntman
