Phil, Derek Fisher hire old pal to complete coaching staff

Derek Fisher has filled the final spot on his coaching staff, agreeing to terms with Phil Jackson’s former assistant, veteran Jim Cleamons, a league source confirmed.

Cleamons won nine titles with Jackson in Chicago and Los Angeles.

The 64-year-old was dismissed by the Bucks after serving one season as Larry Drew’s assistant before Drew was fired and Jason Kidd hired last month.

Cleamons has an encyclopedic knowledge of the triangle offense, and The Post had reported he was a strong candidate to be Fisher’s final hire.

Fisher, reuniting with Cleamons from his Los Angeles days, already has hired Kurt Rambis as his associate head coach, and supplemented his staff with two former Oklahoma City assistants, Brian Keefe and Josh Longstaff, along with Rasheed Hazzard, son of former NBA All-Star Walt Hazzard.

The Knicks have yet to announce any of these hirings, but are expected to do so as soon as Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Times first reported Cleamons had reached an agreement with the Knicks.

During the summer league, Jackson said Cleamons hadn’t had success with the triangle offense as a head coach in Dallas where he coached during the 1996-97 season, but also said he Cleamons did not have a good support staff to teach it. Jackson believes Fisher has such a staff now.
