Deadly beating of Italian tourist caught in shocking video

Shocking surveillance video shows a shirtless Italian national getting knocked out and killed in a Bronx street brawl early Friday morning after he drunkenly picked a fight inside a Fordham bodega.

The footage obtained by The Post shows Oliver D’Orio, 37, getting hit in the face and smacking his head as he fell to the ground about 12:10 a.m. in front of Guerrero Bodega on Washington Avenue and East 184th Street.

D’Orio, who was in the Bronx visiting his girlfriend, was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, cops said.

Bodega clerk Julio Minier, 33, said the visiting Euro sparked the fight by trying to bum beer from the man who killed him.

“[He] was pestering him, saying, ‘Buy me a beer, buy me a beer,’” Minier said.

“They came out onto the street and when the fight started he punched him with an open hand. The man went down. I knew he was dead when he hit the ground.”

Neighbors said D’Orio was causing a stir prior to the fight.

“Last night he was yelling outside and banging outside the Phoenix House (rehab center). He was yelling and banging on the door … holding a bottle of [booze] ten minutes before he was put down,” said neighbor Luis Williams, 38.

Cops were searching for the assailant Friday afternoon.

D’Orio is believed to be an Italian citizen who lives in Switzerland, sources said. He had a ticket booked to return home on a Thursday flight but he never made it on the plane.

His Facebook page shows him posing in the Fordham Road subway station.
