Cashman predicts surgery would cost Beltran 8-12 weeks

If Carlos Beltran winds up needing surgery to remove a bone spur on his right elbow, he is likely to miss 8-12 weeks, according to Yankees GM Brian Cashman.

“Just because of his age,” Cashman said Tuesday. “He played with this bone spur for many years and it wasn’t an issue, but it was that one swing. I hope that’s the only swing.”

Beltran visited Dr. James Andrews in Alabama on Tuesday. Cashman said he was awaiting the results of the meeting, but was confident Andrews would come to the same conclusion the Yankees had.

“Give it another week to see if he responds to the cortisone shot and if he does, great,” said Cashman, who was at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township at a golf tournament for the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. “If not, we all know what we’re staring at, which is in-season surgery.”

Despite the flurry of potential long-term absences, including to lefty CC Sabathia, Cashman said a trade market had not developed.

“I’ve got no choice to be patient this time of year,” Cashman said. “You can’t pull something that’s not available and nothing has presented itself.”
