Muslim convert charged with murder in beheading of co-worker

The Muslim convert accused of going on a violent rampage in Oklahoma last week — beheading a co-worker and stabbing another — was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder, attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Alton Nolen, 30, remains hospitalized with gunshot wounds but is expected to be released late Tuesday or sometime Wednesday, Moore police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis told The Post.

Once he is released, Lewis said, Nolen will be transported to the Cleveland County jail.

Nolen allegedly attacked his co-workers at the Vaughan Foods distribution plant in Moore, beheading Colleen Hufford, 54, and wounding Traci Johnson, 43.

The first photos of Hufford emerged Tuesday on Facebook in a memorial page set up by her family. The pictures reveal a woman who doted on her loved ones and whom relatives described as an affectionate grandmother who always had a smile on her face.

“Someday I’ll see you again,” reads a backdrop on the page, which was created to celebrate Hufford’s life.

Pictures posted to the memorial page depict a life surrounded by family as she is shown cradling a baby, relaxing with her husband and enjoying a beautiful autumn day with family.

A memorial fund was also set up on the FundMe website in Hufford’s honor and has already received more than $1,850 in pledges.

“She was a loyal wife, mother and a doting grandmother,” the page description reads. “This memorial fund is being set up to help her husband KC, and daughter Kelli with her funeral services and if possible to help with Colleen’s granddaughter Riley’s college fund.”

Nolen allegedly snapped shortly after being fired from his job at the plant and attacked Hufford with a 10-inch fillet knife. Co-workers told police that Nolen had attempted to convert them to Islam.
