St. John’s target banned from Oregon’s campus over sexual misconduct

Dominic Artis, the troubled Oregon transfer who was at St. John’s over the weekend on an official visit, won’t be allowed back on his old school’s campus for at least the next four years, according to a report.

Artis, along with former teammates Brandon Austin and Damyean Dotson, was found guilty of sexual misconduct by the school, the Huffington Post reported on Monday.

Artis, Austin and Dotson were accused of sexually assaulting a female classmate overnight from March 8 to 9 at multiple off-campus locations, but Eugene, Ore., prosecutors declined to pursue the case because of insufficient evidence to “prove the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The victim’s lawyer, John Clune, told the Huffington Post the trio was found responsible for sexual misconduct and suspended for a minimum of four years, “or longer if my client is still on campus after four years.” The maximum time for the suspension is 10 years. The three players were dismissed from the team on May 9.

Though Artis was at St. John’s over the weekend, sources told The Post an official offer couldn’t be extended to join the program until school officials gave their approval. A decision, a source said, has yet to be made. Artis, a talented point guard from San Francisco who has two years of eligibility but would have to sit out next year, would help fill a major void in St. John’s backcourt in 2015, when Rysheed Jordan, D’Angelo Harrison and Phil Greene IV are all expected to be gone.
