Jets rookie WR Jalen Saunders in car accident

Jets rookie wide receiver Jalen Saunders was involved in a single-car accident on his way to the training center Friday morning, the team announced.

Saunders was taken to the hospital and is being monitored as a precaution, according to the team. He won’t travel to Cincinnati to play against the Bengals on Saturday.

It is unclear if Saunders suffered any injuries or how serious they might be, but the team using the word “precaution” in their statement seems to indicate he is not seriously injured.

Saunders was a fourth-round pick of the Jets in May out of Oklahoma. The 5-foot-9 wideout is not expected to have a large role on offense this year, but he is expected to be the team’s primary punt returner.

With Saunders out, Jeremy Kerley likely will be the team’s top punt returner Saturday night.
