Shorthanded Red Bulls beat New England

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored his MLS-leading 18th goal of the season and the 10-man Red Bulls beat the New England Revolution 2-1 on Saturday night in Harrison, N.J.

Wright-Phillips curled in a left-footed shot in the 63rd minute for his ninth goal in his last 10 games. He’s a goal away from tying the single-season club record set by Juan Pablo Angel in 2007.

Matt Miazga received a red card for the Red Bulls (6-6-10) in the second minute of first-half stoppage time for a late challenge of Lee Nguyen.

The Red Bulls’ Dax McCarty tied it at 1 in the second minute after halftime.

Record crowd for Man U-Madrid

In Ann Arbor, Mich., Ashley Young scored twice in the first half, and Manchester United beat Real Madrid 3-1 in front of the largest crowd to watch a soccer game in the United States.

United remained unbeaten in this year’s International Champions Cup, advancing to the final of the preseason tournament under new manager Louis van Gaal.

The crowd of 109,318 at Michigan Stadium broke the previous U.S. mark of 101,799, set at the Rose Bowl for the 1984 Olympic final.
