The “Harlem Kevorkian” who admitted to assisting in the 2009 suicide of a Long Island motivational speaker is set to plead guilty next week to manslaughter charges, his lawyer said.
Kenneth Minor is expected to receive 12 years’ prison time when he pleads guilty Monday to first-degree manslaughter in the killing of Jeffrey Locker, who offered Minor money to make his death look like a violent robbery so his family could cash in on an $18 million insurance policy.
In 2011, Minor, 41, was convicted of murder and sentenced to 20 years, but a higher court overturned the conviction.
“He’s tired. He’s been in [jail] for five years. He wants this to be over,” said Minor’s lawyer, Daniel Gotlin. “He’s saying, ‘I know I did something wrong, and I have to pay the penalty.'”
“It’s the lesser of two evils,” added Gotlin.
Assisted suicide falls under the second-degree manslaughter charge in New York.
