‘Downton’ cast responds to water bottle-gate

Following last week’s embarrassing gaffe, in which a decidedly modern water bottle was left inside a photo for period drama “Downton Abbey,” the cast of the popular series is looking to put a charitable spin on the infamous faux pas.

On Saturday, several cast members of the cast posed with water bottles to raise awareness for UK-based charity WaterAid. The organization works with 26 countries to provide safe water for those without access.

“After seeing the reaction the picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention toward an issue around water that really matters,” said an ITV spokesperson. “They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity — WaterAid.”
