Man dies after crashing car into bee-infested home

ST. CHARLES, Mich. — Authorities say swarms of bees that emerged from a vacant Michigan home following a car crash prevented people from trying to save the motorist.

The Saginaw News says that 54-year-old Patrick L. Muirhead may have had a medical emergency before Wednesday’s crash.

The St. Charles resident was pronounced dead at the scene after crashing into the bee-infested home in his hometown, about 85 miles northwest of Detroit.

Saginaw County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Pfau says the house hadn’t been occupied for many years. He says people nearby tried to help the driver, but the bees pushed them back.

Pfau says those attempting to help the man attached a tow strap to the car and pulled it away from the home as rescue crews responded.
