Stephen Hill blames media for sabotaging his chance with Jets

Former Jets wide receiver Stephen Hill told reporters in North Carolina the New York media wanted to run him out of town and exaggerated how tough a time he had catching the ball.

The Jets cut Hill on Saturday after taking the Georgia Tech product in the second round of the 2012 draft. The Panthers signed him to their practice squad Tuesday.

“Well, honestly, that was New York Jets media that did that,” said Hill, who had 45 catches and four touchdowns in two seasons with the Jets. “If you really go back and look at it, there were guys at other facilities that dropped more than I did. As a receiver you’re going to drop passes. You’re going to catch footballs. Things like that happen.

“It’s just that the New York media – and honestly this is me talking – did all that. They can say what they want to say about me, but I really don’t care. I’m in a new place now. They tried their best to get me out of there.”

Hill’s agent, Alan Herman, had previously blamed a lack of support from coach Rex Ryan and the turnover at quarterback as reasons for Hill’s lack of success in an interview with ESPN.com.
