Add the Captain to the ALS bucket list.

Derek Jeter is the latest big-name sports star to participate in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, a fundraising effort where people dump ice water on their heads and then donate money (or are supposed to anyway) to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research.

Before Jeter was dunked, he acknowledged Yankees legend Lou Gehrig, who suffered from ALS (the disease often is referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Jeter also gave a shout out to Pete Frates, the former captain of the Boston College baseball team who suffers from ALS and has become a national spokesman for the Ice Bucket Challenge.

Before Jeter’s cold bath, he nominated model Hannah Davis, his girlfriend, actor Kevin Connelly and Michael Jordan. CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka performed the dunking.
