PHILADELPHIA — Ben Revere hit his first career home run Tuesday night in his 1,466th at-bat, or 1,566th plate appearance, ending a four-year drought for the Phillies center fielder and terminating one of baseball’s best statistical curiosities.

Revere’s one-out homer off Rockies left-handed reliever Boone Logan in the seventh just cleared the wall in right to pull Philadelphia within 4-2 in an eventual 6-2 loss.

Revere pointed skyward after crossing the plate, then grinned while receiving congratulations from Jimmy Rollins before entering a silent dugout. His teammates relented after a minute or so and mobbed the smiling Revere.

“It’s a good feeling,” said Revere, who made his major league debut with the Twins in 2010. “When I got to second base, I didn’t know what to do. I was trying not to smile but some guys got on me. It was fun. I’ll try to hit 400 more.”

Before the monumental blast, Revere ranked fifth all-time for most plate appearances without a homer. Jack McCarthy (1901-1907) holds the record with 2,470. Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum takes over the active lead with 520.
