Why the eight-figure contract is the new designer must-have

It used to be stars were paid five figures to sit front-row at Fashion Week.

But now designers have a new incentive for A-listers to give cachet to their brand.

“These brands issue contracts with ‘days,’” says one fashion insider.

For a number of days in a given year, stars are expected to wear the designer’s clothes, either when attending shows or simply being photographed in an ensemble.

So when Dior spokesperson Jennifer Lawrence shows up at the Oscars in one of Dior’s gowns, she’s likely clocking in one of her days.

“[Lawrence] is obviously a celebrity [Dior] has kept a long-term contract with,” the insider says. (In fact, it was reported that Dior signed Lawrence on for a whopping $15 million for three more years.)

If a designer isn’t interested in a serious relationship, they may do the one-night-stand thing, just paying the star for appearing at a show.

Insiders say big names like Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger garner $20,000 per front-row appearance. Another clever way designers pay is by covering lodging or transportation rather than cash.

And we’re talkin’ private jets, not cab fare.
