Three gang members charged in shooting of gathered mourners

Three thugs belonging to a gang called the “Grimy Motherf——” were charged Thursday with shooting into a crowd of mourners during a candlelight vigil in Yonkers, killing an innocent bystander.

Federal prosecutors in Westchester charged Da’Quan Johnson, James Johnson and Kenneth Moore with the December 28, 2013 shooting into a gathering of grievers honoring a man who had died in a motorcycle crash in Queens.

One of the bullets struck 38-year-old Tyrone Arthur, a teacher’s aide at the Westchester School for Special Needs, killing him.

The shootout was the latest in a series of back-and-forth attacks between this gang and a rival gang called “Highland.”

Da’Quan Johnson, 23, of Yonkers and Moore, 24, of Mount Vernon, were charged Thursday with conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering. James Johnson, 22, of Yonkers, was charged with hiding the weapon.

“Once again we charge another senseless killing of a bystander by rival street gangs and drug dealers underscoring the continuing need to dismantle these violent groups, who not only threaten each other but everyone around them,” U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said.
