Yankees sign Mets bust Chris Young to minor league deal

The Yankees signed outfielder Chris Young to a minor league contract Wednesday with the likelihood he will be added to the major league team when the rosters expand to 40 on Monday.

Signed by the Mets as a free agent for $7.25 million in the offseason, Young was released on Aug. 15. In 88 games with the Mets, he batted .205 (52-for-254) with eight homers, 28 RBIs and a .630 OPS.

“He is a guy who has had some success in his career,’’ Girardi said of the 30-year-old. “He is a very good outfielder and a guy who can hit the ball out of the ballpark, so we will see what we have.’’

The 30-year-old, who hit more than 20 home runs four times in his career, could provide a potential power bat off the bench for the clout-starved Yankees.
