TLC relaunching ‘Cake Boss’ for a new season

TLC is relaunching “Cake Boss” star Buddy Valastro’s bakery rescue show for another season.

The first season of the series aired late last year under the title of “Bakery Boss.” The new series, “Buddy’s Bakery Rescue,” will premiere July 1. In the new six-episode show — premiering after “Next Great Baker” — Valastro will visit struggling bakeries in New York (Millie’s Bakery in Johnstown and Laura’s Sweets Specialty Bake Shop in Sugar Loaf), Delaware (Newark), Florida (North Miami), Texas (Houston) and Massachusetts (Bedford).

“TLC is proud of this series and the real contributions it has been making in the lives and livelihoods of the bakeries Buddy was able to help transform,” says TLC GM Nancy Daniels. “By relaunching it with the new title … we have the chance to re-introduce our fans to the series, and capture even more audience during its summer season.”

More cable: Hallmark Movie Channel’s weepy “The Color of Rain,” which premiered last Saturday night, was the highest-rated and most-watched original movie in the network’s history, snaring 1.4 million viewers in its premiere (9-11 p.m.) and shattering records in key demos, including women 25-54 and adults 25-54. Lacey Chabert and Warren Christie star as a couple who meet and fall in love after losing their respective spouses to cancer.

And TLC’s “Return to Amish” — which reunited the original cast members of “Breaking Amish” — premiered Sunday night to a healthy 2.4 million viewers, finishing first among all TV shows (broadcast and cable) from 9 to 11 p.m. in women 18-34 (excluding sports telecasts). It also notched TLC’s best timeslot delivery (in total viewers and households) since November 2012 (the second part of a Season 1 “Breaking Amish” reunion special).

Last, but not least …

Monday night’s “48 Hours: The Lost Daughter,” about the 25-year search for a missing Florida college student, won its 10 p.m. timeslot on CBS (6.1 million veiwers) … MLB Network anchor Kristina Fitzpatrick (co-host of “High Heat” with Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo) dined with Women In Sports & Events president Van Adams at Lulu & Me restaurant (Fifth Avenue) Monday night … Wednesday on “New York Live” (12:30 p.m./Ch. 4): Jaime Pressly (TV Land’s “Jennifer Falls”) … The “National Puerto Rican Day Parade” airs live this Sunday (11 a.m./Ch. 5 and 1 p.m./Ch. 9) with hosts Ernie Anastos and Audrey Puente … Acorn TV has added eight UK shows, including “Murdoch Mysteries” and “The Field of Blood” (starring David Morrissey from “The Walking Dead”), to its streaming lineup (acorn.tv).
