Crooked livery cabbie avoids jail time

A Manhattan judge sentenced a crooked livery cabbie to 5 years probation and 150 hours of community service for swapping out passengers’ credit cards then using the stolen plastic to make cash advances and withdrawals.

Jawad Shabir, 24, must also pay full restitution of $14,383 to his 7 victims by next August.

The thieving hack pleaded guilty to identity theft and scheme to defraud last May as part of a no-jail plea deal.

Shabir orchestrated the scam by pocketing passengers’ credit and debit cards and handing over ones he’d already looted.

The victims usually didn’t notice anything was wrong until the next morning.

Lawyer Anastasia Efimova, 40, of Chelsea said the cabbie lifted her cards while giving her a ride in the West Village.

“It was quite a sophisticated little scam,” she said.

A cash advance was made on her credit card and 19 withdrawals were made with her debit card totaling $5,000, she said.

Shabir and his lawyer declined to comment as they left court.
