Cuomo surges ahead in the polls as he focuses on women voters

He’s leading by 35 points in the polls, but Gov. Cuomo is taking no chances in November’s election and plans to create a new ballot line targeting women voters, The Post has learned.

Sources said the new Women’s Equality Party will be announced Thursday at a noon press conference next to the Eleanor Roosevelt statue at 72nd Street and Riverside Drive.

Cuomo’s running mate for lieutenant governor, Kathy Hochul, will headline the event.

Supporters said the Women’s Equality Party will focus on abortion rights and other key women’s issues.

A 10-point bill to bolster women’s rights failed to pass in Albany this year because of a dispute over one issue — abortion rights.

Pro-Life advocates claimed the provision would cover late-term abortions and expand what’s already on the books.

There was no disagreement on the other nine points, which included workplace protections such as equal pay.

Supporters said the bill would merely enshrine Roe. vs. Wade abortion rights protections under state law, in case the U.S. Supreme Court overruled the federal protections.

A poll issued earlier this month by Marist College, the Wall Street Journal and NBC-4 showed Cuomo as actually more popular among women voters than men.

He had a 56 to 28 percent lead over Republican rival rob Astorino among men, but was winning women by a 61-20 percent margin. Overall, Cuomo was ahead 59 to 24 percent.
