Millionaire George Bardwil’s ex-wife falsely accused him of bashing her head into the floor in an effort to score a fat payday, a lawyer for the so-called ‘Linen King’ argued Tuesday in opening statements at his Manhattan assault trial.
Bardwil, 62, faces two counts of felony assault for allegedly slamming his ex, Emiko Bardwil, 28, into the floor so hard during an argument almost two years ago that she needed staples to close the wound.
“She tripped. She fell backwards and knocked her head on the kitchen counter,” attorney Michael Bachner told Manhattan jurors. “Once she realized she was cut, now there was an effort for her payday that she never got in the course of their marriage.”
George Bardwil has a pending criminal case for allegedly possessing an illegal gun he used to scare off an intruder.
