Eva and Kate strike out, while Kiernan hits a homerun

When the weather starts to swelter, some deal well, others get delusional.

The week’s best-dressed stars opted for easy elegance and strategic pops of skin, while the ones who sank — some of the biggest celebs on the planet, no less — brought immense shame upon the sacred notion of summer black.

The hits:

Jess Weixler

Unless you were lucky enough to see Weixler in the comic horror masterpiece “Teeth” (in which she plays a woman with fangs in her vagina), you probably don’t know who she is — until now.

And judging by this stellar DVF wrap dress situation she put on for the Los Angeles Film Festival “Trouble Dolls” premiere, the Juilliard alumna is out to tear it up style-wise, two mismatched pop accessories at a time.

Jessica Chastain

It’s simple — cut bangs to be more “fashion.” Chastain did it, and look: She elevated herself from pancake to posh.

En route to an after-party in Toronto, the actress accented her boxy crop top and high-waisted trousers with a fuchsia lip and satin pumps. It’s down-played dressing well-played.

Kiernan Shipka

Oops! She did it again. The teen fashion titan attended the 2014 MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto in an embellished Marni number seemingly just to show everyone what’s up.

The look is pretty, yet not too pretty, and certainly more age-appropriate than what Kendall Jenner wore to usurp attention at the same event.

Nicola Peltz

At the Hong Kong premiere of “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” the movie that’s supposed to make Peltz a star, the 19-year-old blonde proved that maybe she can — at the very least — look the part.

This keyhole Prada gown with bedazzled trim is lovely, and considering the subdued hair and minor accessorizing, Peltz should be proud. Still, let’s temper the praise and see what she shows up wearing next.

Teresa Moore

The model looked divine in a Grecian-esque Kora Rae wrap gown at the Weinstein Company’s “Yves Saint Laurent” premiere hosted by Yves Saint Laurent Couture Palette & the Cinema Society at Museum of Modern Art.

The Erickson Beamon jewels added just the right amount of sparkle.

The misses:

Eva Longoria

Ms. Longoria will never learn. Last week it was office drone; this time she’s one of those tasty-yet-unsightly hot dogs that get crinkly and brunt after too much time on the grill. Perhaps that’s the way in Taormina, Italy, where she attended the city’s annual film festival.

The actress must be awfully hot, and surely tired of looking awful.

Halle Berry

At the LA premiere of “Extant,” the beautiful, Oscar-winning actress looked less than her best in this unflattering gunmetal dress. No further comment.

Kate Winslet

Here’s another case of great thespian gone insane.

We get it, you’re invited to the Prix de Diane Longines in Chantilly, France, and you want to grab the first thing that says “magnifique!” so you grab a silly hat and end up looking like a chocolate éclair. It happens.

Lindsay Lohan

Li-LOL.

Given the brand shift towards junk food chic it’s clear the Moschino press office peeps just couldn’t help themselves. The ex-con was not only invited to the label’s London fashion show, but was given a (bad) head-to-toe look for the occasion. Or maybe she stole it, you never know with her.

Mariah Carey

Me. I am . . . tired of Mariah showing up to events looking like this. Wasn’t a flop album enough?

To the Clear Channel Media dinner in Cap d’Antibes, France, Carey wore a sheer glovelet and — actually, we’re still not over the glovelet! Mariah should start being the elusive chanteuse she claims to be and bow out with some semblance of grace.

Lightning round: Things Nicole Kidman should and should not wear

Ms. Kidman has entered a dangerous period in her life — at the box office, in the Botox chair — so one can only approach her sympathetically. The A-list actress has the power to pull from practically any designer she chooses, but her judgment is precarious at best. Here’s proof:

For the “Grace of Monaco” press conference held during the Shanghai International Film Festival, Kidman stepped out swathed in a Salvatore Ferragamo dress that — on her — looked plain unsightly.

But just hours later at the film’s premier, she looked smashing in Swarovski-crystal-embroidered Armani Privé.
