Another movie is getting a small-screen sequel.
Lifetime has ordered a six-episode drama based on the 1976 horror film “The Omen” following the adult life of Damien Thorn.
The sequel series, “Damien,” centers on the mysterious child from the movie who has grown up seemingly unaware of the satanic forces around him but must now come to terms with his destiny as the Antichrist.
The 1976 original starred Harvey Stephens (as Damien), Gregory Peck and Lee Remick.
Glen Mazzara (ex-showrunner on “The Walking Dead”) will write and executive-produce the drama, which is scheduled to premiere in early 2015.
“We are thrilled to be bringing a contemporary version of ‘The Omen’s Damien Thorn back to the screen,” said Rob Sharenow, executive VP and general manager of Lifetime. “Glen Mazzara has re-imagined him as a dark, romantic, anti-hero and this fresh take blends complex characters with premium storytelling.”
Prequels and sequels have become a hot trend in TV, with series like A&E’s “Bates Motel” — which centers on a pre-“Psycho” Norman Bates — and Fox’s upcoming Batman origin series “Gotham.”
“Damien” also represents a darker direction for Lifetime, whose current slate includes “Devious Maids,” “Witches of East End” and “The Lottery.”
