Fashion hounds go crazy for Lagerfeld’s pricey accessories

Call it the summer of Karl Lagerfeld.

The German designer, who is the head creative at both Chanel and Fendi, is winning big with the craziest, most coveted items of the upcoming season.

First, say hello to the Bag Boy Karlito key chain from Fendi — a diminutive, hand-held homage to the iconoclastic designer. Mimicking Lagerfeld’s trademark monochromatic suit-and-tie threads in fox fur and mink, the item costs a staggering $1,750.

Who would drop that kind of change on a key chain? Apparently loads of style slaves: The waiting list is reportedly 600 fashionistas deep for the limited-edition trinket, first modeled by Cara Delevingne during Fendi’s February fashion show. It will hit select Bergdorf Goodman, Fendi and Neiman Marcus stores in September.

If you’re in the market for an accessory with a bit more function, try Chanel’s graffiti backpack — hand-painted and decked in ribbons and carabiners, it’s part of the brand’s spring/summer 2014 collection and is priced from $3,400 to $3,800. Since it went on sale earlier this year, couture groupies Lily Allen, Kristen Stewart and Chloë Grace Moretz are among the wave of celebs eager to look like art-school students. Trés funky.
