Nick Swisher had total bummer of a season, can’t stay mad about it

Rough season, bro.

Nick Swisher’s disappointing second season in Cleveland is over after the outfielder underwent surgery on both knees Wednesday, operations the first baseman/outfielder hopes will alleviate pain and extend his career. The 33-year-old former Yankee has struggled after inking a four-year, $56 million contract with the Indians.

When he was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 10, he was hitting .208 with eight home runs and 42 RBIs in 97 games. This came after he hit just .246 – how lowest average since 2008 – with 22 homers and a career-low 63 RBIs in 2013.

Despite those struggles, Swisher, 33, has tried to stay upbeat.

“It’s not always going to be pretty. You’re going to get beat up in this game. But come on, man, why would I come to the ballpark with a bad look on my face? There’s nothing to really bring me down from this high,” he told USA Today in June. “Let’s be honest. I’ve got the most amazing job in the world. I’ve got the most beautiful wife. I’ve got the most beautiful daughter. I’ve got all of the money I’ll ever need. And now I’m supposed to get mad because I’m struggling at the plate?

“That’s not me, bro.”
