Hey, look, Odell Beckham making plays on the practice field

They were 10 of the most encouraging yards Odell Beckham Jr. gained so far this summer.

Beckham, sidelined most of training camp with a strained hamstring, continues to make progress. The next step in his return to health came Wednesday, when he participated in 11-on-11 team drills for the first time since his injury. It was only a few snaps, but it was something positive out of the first-round draft pick.

He even caught a touchdown pass in a red-zone drill, hauling in a pass from Curtis Painter.

“It was an in-cut,” Beckham said. “I kind of had to read the defense to decide what I wanted to do. I just made the in-cut. Painter threw it, I just tried my best to catch it and get in the end zone.”

Coach Tom Coughlin did not say whether Beckham might play Saturday night in Indianapolis. It is highly likely Beckham will not be rushed into this game, thus the Giants would get him a full week of practice and try to unveil him Aug. 22 against the Jets.

LT Will Beatty (leg) and CB Trumaine McBride (hip) will make their preseason debuts against the Colts. Beatty, coming off a broken leg, will not stay on the field as long as the other starters on the offensive line, given it will be his first action of the preseason. … TE Daniel Fells, TE Xavier Grimble, KR Trindon Holliday and CB Zack Bowman did not participate in practice.

Colts RB Ahmad Bradshaw might make his preseason debut Saturday night against his former team. After surgery to repair a bulging disc in his neck, Bradshaw missed the final 13 games last season.

“I am very confident, and I just want to heal as much as possible,” Bradshaw told reporters at Colts training camp. “There are not a lot of guys that have been through neck surgeries and a year later they are playing football again, especially at my position.Right now, as we speak, I am as confident as anything going in. I don’t think about my neck at all playing, and I am just shooting forward from here on”

Another former Giant, WR Hakeem Nicks, is looking for a rebound year with the Colts.

“It’s always going to be good to see Hakeem,’’ Antrel Rolle said. “I’m happy for Hakeem. I think he landed in a blessed situation. More important, alongside Reggie Wayne. I’m a longtime friend of Reggie Wayne. I understand his work ethic and his craft. Hakeem, having someone above him to lay down the foundation, lay the law down, is going to help him increase his game just that much more.”

The Saints signed former Giants TE Travis Beckum to a one-year deal. Beckum, a 2009 third-round draft pick of the Giants, tore up his knee in Super Bowl XLVII and was out of football last year. … Training camp comes to an end after Thursday’s practice, the final one open to the public.
