George W. Bush takes the Ice Bucket Challenge

The viral social media phenomenon known as the Ice Bucket Challenge received the presidential treatment Wednesday when former President George W. Bush found himself drenched in the name of a good cause.

“To all you that challenged me, I do not think it’s presidential for me to be splashed with ice water, so I’m simply going to write you a check,” Bush said in a video posted to Facebook.

Then former first lady Laura Bush comes in with a sneak attack and douses her 68-year-old husband with a bucket of icy water.

“That check is for me,” she cheerfully quips. “I wouldn’t ruin my hairstyle.”

The viral sensation was created as a way to raise awareness for ALS, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The 43rd commander-in-chief was challenged by several people including his daughter Jenna Bush Hager, Jets owner Woody Johnson, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and professional golfer Rory McIlroy.

Once he dries himself off, Bush goes on to call out his presidential predecessor, Bill Clinton.

“Yesterday was Bill’s birthday and my gift to Bill is a bucket of cold water,” he says before cracking a smirk.

As of Aug. 19, the Ice Bucket Challenge has raised $22.9 million in donations for the ALS Association.
