A first look at BBC America’s ‘Intruders’

Here’s your first look at “Intruders” — and its two stars, Mira Sorvino and John Simm.

The hotly anticipated BBC America series, premiering Aug. 23, relates the story of a mysterious disappearance — followed by an equally puzzling return.

Amy Whelan (Sorvino) is a lawyer who goes to Seattle on business and abruptly vanishes. Her husband, Jack (John Simm), travels there to find her, but gets more questions than answers when trying to piece together Amy’s disappearance.

The show’s back story is that Jack is a retired cop living in the wilds in Washington State, with miles between him and the violent incident that prompted him to quit. Up to now, his 10-year marriage to Amy has been a happy one.

To complicate matters, Jack is surprised when an old friend from high school shows up on his doorstep asking for help with a murder case.

“Intruders” is based on a novel by Michael Marshall Smith and describes a secret society that wants to ensure its immortality by taking refuge in the bodies of others.

The spooky tone is in good hands, since the show’s exeutive producer is Glen Morgan of “The X-Files” fame.
