Man accused of beating toddler to death told wife: I ‘f—ed up’

The Brooklyn man accused of beating his 3-year-old stepdaughter to death called his wife after the attack and said he “f—ed up” and that the girl wasn’t breathing, court papers revealed after his arraignment Wednesday.

Kelsey “Shawn” Smith, 20, was arraigned in Brooklyn criminal court on murder and assault raps for fatally hitting little Jeida and also pummeling his 5-year-old stepson, Andrew.

The ex-con was arraigned via video conference from Bellevue Hospital, where he has been since he cut himself after allegedly attacking the children in their Bushwick homeless shelter Saturday.

“[Smith] called [his wife] and stated that [he] ‘f—ed up’ and hit Jeida Torres and that Jeida Torres was not breathing,” his criminal complaint state.

“A 3-year-old girl was in custody of the defendant. He was supposed to be watching her, instead of watching her it took a significant turn of events and [he] caused her significant harm until the point she lost her life,” prosecutor Bernarda Villalona said in Brooklyn criminal court.

“And then fled after committing those acts and left those two kids in the house by themselves.”

Smith wore what looked like a white hospital gown and showed no expression during the brief court proceeding.

His defense attorney made no arguments on his behalf and he was remanded without bail.

The Administration of Children’s Services filed a child abuse case against Kimberly Torres in Brooklyn Family Court on Tuesday during a custody hearing between her and dad Pedro Torres over Andrew.
