Man killed in hit-and-run, police search for driver

Police are on the hunt for a hit-and-run driver who fatally mowed down a man in Queens early Monday, cops said.

Karoll Grzegorczyk, 32, was struck and killed by a dark-colored sedan going south on Fresh Pond Road in Maspeth at around 2:50 a.m. as he was crossing mid-block between 60th Drive and Elliot Avenue.

The Flushing man had run out between two parked cars. The driver who hit him fled, cops said.

Police responded to a 911 call of a struck pedestrian and found Grzegorczyk unconscious and unresponsive lying in the road, officials said.

He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center with trauma to his body, and pronounced dead.

The driver of the sedan was still at large Monday afternoon, police said.

Meanwhile, a driver who was allegedly behind a hate-fueled hit-and-run, also in Queens, was in police custody, cops said Tuesday.

Joseph Caleca, 55, allegedly called a Sikh man a “terrorist” moments before running him down last month.

He was charged with attempted murder and felony assault, both as hate crimes.
