A California woman tried to slide down the chimney and into the house of a man she had met online and had gone on a few dates with — only the plan was foiled when she became lodged partway down the chimney, authorities said.

The besooted Genoveva Nunez-Figueroa, 30, was arrested for illegally entering the man’s Thousand Oaks home after the two had gone on several dates, according to Huffington Post.

Firefighters responded after a neighbor heard Nunez-Figueroa crying and called 911. They used jackhammers to dismantle the chimney and lubricated her with soap to extricate her after about two hours, Capt. Renee Ferguson of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said.

Nunez-Figueroa was taken to a hospital for evaluation. It was not clear why she was trying to break into the home.

She was charged with illegally entering a residence and providing false information to a peace officer.

The resident, who was not identified, said the two had met online and had gone on about six dates.

“It wasn’t Santa Claus, for sure,” he told CBS Los Angeles. “Having someone in your chimney is like kind of a weird thing you wouldn’t expect to come home to.”

Nunez-Figueroa’s bail was set at $2,500 and she is due in court Tuesday.

Her family has offered to pay for the repairs, saying she is a good person.

At least the hearth-warming story did not end like another chimney tale in Bakersfield, California, about four years ago, when a doctor tried forcing her way into her boyfriend’s home by sliding down the chimney.

Her decomposing body was found there three days later.
