Mentally-ill man gets six-months in jail for Bush threat

A mentally ill upstate New York man who threatened to kill George W. Bush while professing a desire to woo the ex-president’s daughter caught a break Friday when he avoided further jail time.

Benjamin Smith, 45, was sentenced only to the six months he had already spent behind bars.

“I would like to apologize to the court and anyone I might have offended,” Smith said before Manhattan federal Judge Sidney Stein ordered a year of supervised release. Smith had faced up to 18 months in prison after copping a plea to weapons charges.

He was arrested in January after being pulled over driving in Manhattan with a loaded rifle and machete.

The ex-president was not in New York at the time.

“I have to slay a dragon and then Barbara Bush is mine,” he said in a note his mother handed over to cops.
