Man busted for selling MDMA at music fest

The feds on Wednesday busted an upstate man for selling the party drug MDMA to concert-goers — including a 23-year-old man who died at the Electric Zoo music festival on Randall’s Island last August.

Patrick Morgan, 23, of Buffalo was arrested on narcotics distribution and conspiracy charges and faces up to 40 years behind bars.

Jeffrey Russ, 23, and Olivia Rotondo, 20, both died after taking MDMA at the 2013 Electric Zoo festival.
Morgan allegedly sold MDMA pills — commonly known as molly — to three friends who attended Electric Zoo, including 23-year-old Jeffrey Russ of Rochester.

Russ later collapsed while partying and had a seizure, according to an indictment. The Syracuse University graduate was taken to Harlem Hospital where he died hours later from acute intoxication.

MDMA use has also been blamed for the death of 20-year-old Olivia Rotondo and the sickening of several others at the same Electric Zoo festival.

Morgan, in late August, allegedly sold about 80 molly pills to an acquaintance of Russ’ for about $1,100, the feds say. He is also accused of selling Russ and his friends molly at a concert in Buffalo earlier that month.

Morgan was expected to be presented before a federal judge later Wednesday in Buffalo.

The case is being handled by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Manhattan US Attorney.
