People magazine is racist: lawsuit

A new lawsuit claims that People, the county’s No. 1 celebrity magazine, is a bastion of racism led by white bosses who think stories about blacks would never interest their “white middle-class” audience.

Tatsha Robertson, an award-winning journalist who created Essence magazine’s White House bureau, was the first and only black senior editor at People until she was fired after suffering through years of discrimination, the suit, filed in Manhattan, says.

People had only eight black employees out of 110, and Robertson often heard racist remarks while working there, the suit claims.

Representatives for People could not be immediately reached for comment.
